How do I use the Digital Pin-up system

I want to use the Digital Pin-up system in 119A for a class presentation. What file formats does it support and ow do I get the images to the screens?

Answer

Supported file formats include .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .bmp, .svg, .gif, .avi, .mkv, .mp4, .mov, and .heic.  While the Meural supports .avi, .mkv, .mp4, and .mov formats, smaller formats in H.264 and MPEG4 encoding, such as .gif, tend to run better. This is a video only display; there are no speakers for sound.

File specifications

  • Maximum file size is 20MB
  • Files need to be named with a letter prefix (ex A-filename.jpg).
  • Dimensions for images in either vertical or horizontal orientation:
    • For vertical images: 9:16 ratio, cropped to fit 1080 x 1920
    • For horizontal images: 16:9 ratio, cropped to fit 1920 x 1080
  • Video frame rates and bit rates:
    • 15 frames per second (fps) with a bit rate of up to 10 Mbps.
  • Number of frames per .gif file:
    • For .gif files with dimensions around 1920 x 1080, fewer than 90 total frames.
    • For .gif files with smaller dimensions, fewer than 200 total frames.

The process of getting materials onto the digital frames is as follows:

  1. Reserve the space at https://calendar.ced.uga.edu/space/114975
  2. Option 1 (Please allow at least two working days for the content to be loaded.):
    1. The 20 screens are identified A-T beginning at the left as facing the wall
      1. Assign one screen to the content you want displayed (student, theme, etc.)
      2. Copy the images for each screen to the appropriate letter folder in the OneDrive share Canvas 119A.
    2. When all files are in the correct folder, create a helpdesk ticket by emailing cedhelp@uga.edu and requesting that the content be loaded to the frames.
  3. Option 2 (please allow at least one hour from the time the cards are returned for the content to be loaded):
    1. Email cedhelp@uga.edu with a date and time to pick up the frames' SD cards from Owens and when the cards will be returned to be loaded into the frames
      1. The cards will only be given to faculty or assigned instructor
    2. The 20 screens are identified A-T beginning at the left as facing the wall
    3. Copy files to the appropriate card
    4. Return prepared cards to Owens to be installed in the frames
